What happens when you throw a few engineers together with a pretty good idea and a few lasers? We wanted to know so we tried.

The results have opened up a new way to bring the power of the internet to physical objects. Has this been done before? Sure but not really in a way that adds much value.

That’s where the engineers come in. We have endless ideas.

Spencer L. Webb, CTO DuraGift LLC

Trained in electrical engineering at MIT (1979-1983), Spencer Webb is an inventor and entrepreneur.  He began his antenna consulting business around 1991 (antennasys.com).

Early projects included working on low-earth-orbit satellite ground-station communications antennas for some of the very first email-over-satellite projects to handle urgent medical communications.

Later his work included covert electronics for the law-enforcement and intelligence fields.  Many consumer products contain integrated antennas of his design.  He did not design the iPhone 4 antenna, so don't blame him.

During college, as a member of the MIT Varsity Pistol Team, Spencer won an individual silver medal in the Sectional Championships in Collegiate Standard Pistol competition.

Silver was pretty good considering the Gold went to a member of the US Olympic Team.  But, the most important part of that story was the piece of paper he taped to his award.  It listed the members of his four-man team, and their scores in the competition.  A quarter century later, when this trophy was found while unpacking a box, he was able to enjoy the memory of the competition, and the accomplishments of his teammates.  It was this piece of paper taped to a trophy that fueled his collaboration which gave rise to DuraGift.

Spencer is a dedicated husband and father, with two kids who think that every home’s garage is only meant to contain a machine shop.  An Extra Class Amateur Radio Operator (callsign W2SW), he's been licensed since 1977.  He is an avid photographer, competitive shooter, private pilot, and a 3rd-degree Black Belt and Instructor in Taekwondo.
